Solution
Moochi focuses on a lack of perseverance, aims to revolutionize the way users approach budgeting, empowering them to achieve financial stability and prosperity with joy and determination.
Developed with the core principle of fostering positive financial habits, our team has created an innovative app that empowers users to establish effective budgeting skills through a combination of repetition, achievable goal-setting, and a motivating reward system.
Ideation
I created task flows for steps to complete a common task and a goal tasks:
Add entry (spending)
Set goal and contribute to it
Design
My initial building block was an MVP that focused solely on expense tracking. This served as the foundation for my work
Working Foundation
Sketches
I began by sketching the design, seamlessly integrating the essential must-have features identified during the thorough research phase.
Usability Testing [3 participants]
3 tasks to complete:
1️⃣
Add an income when they first onboard
Add a transaction after purchase at the grocery
2️⃣
3️⃣
Add a Goal
Findings
Users appreciate the details page that clearly states the remaining amount in each category and enables tracking of past expenses for each category.
Users find the goal system helpful in establishing a budgeting habit, which aligns with the app's primary objectives.
Habit forming is a crucial characteristic that sets Moochi apart from other budgeting apps.
Users found the "income edit" overlay confusing and expressed a desire to view past income amounts. Consequently, I redesigned the income page into a full page that displays graphs illustrating income trends and lists all income inputs sorted by month.

Take Away
In my capacity as a UI/UX Designer, I embarked on my first professional project, which presented a steep learning curve as I immersed myself in industry-standard tools like Figma and best practices such as iOS design guidelines. Through extensive research of other designers' work, I incorporated industry-standard techniques while maintaining my unique approach to addressing user needs and optimizing task flows. Despite being part of a small team, I gained valuable design skills and refined my team collaboration capabilities, which culminated in the successful release of a functional product. Although it was not my finest work, I take pride in having played a key role in its creation.
